Offensive outbursts helped the University of Minnesota Duluth (6-4) start its six-day, 10-game Florida road trip off on the right foot, beating the University of Minnesota-Crookston 24-3, and the University of Charleston (W. Va.) 15-8 in Ft. Myers on Friday afternoon.

In the first of the two nine-inning non-conference contests on the day, the story was all about the Bulldogs' batting. In total, UMD hitters went 32-for-58 at the plate, good for a .552 team batting average.

Among the top performers from game one was sophomore shortstop Tyler Erickson, who went 4-for-7, with two doubles and six runs batted in. Senior co-captain David Olson was a perfect 4-for-4, driving in five runs thanks to a double and home run.

Senior Bryan Denisen and freshman Troy Hoeppner also got in on the mix, each getting five hits in seven at-bats - Denisen drove in two runs while Hoeppner added another RBI.

Freshman Kyle Dahl (1-0) picked up the pitching victory for UMD, his first collegiate career win, going three innings after freshman starter Collin Stinogel lasted the opening four frames.

The Bulldogs were able to continue their hot swinging in the second game. Erickson and Olson were again leading the charge, going a combined 7-for-9 at the dish, with Olson, a Lakeville, Minn., native, driving in three runs. Junior outfielder Will Dahlgren swatted three hits in four plate appearances, and had a trio of RBIs.

Sophomore Josh Foreman (1-2) picked up his first pitching win in 2009, turning in a solid six innings against the Golden Eagles of Charleston.

"We had great, smart at-bats today," said head coach Bob Rients. "Our defense played well too, and we are happy with the individual performances put in."

The Bulldogs will meet up with Minnesota-Crookston again tomorrow, Saturday March 14, for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game of the double dip is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
