UMD RECEIVES AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD FOR 2011-12

Friday, July 20, 2012

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 533 teams ranging from the high school ranks to the NCAA I level have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season, and among the programs to obtain the award is the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Bulldogs were one of 67 NCAA II women's volleyball teams to earn the academic team award, which accounts for just over 12 percent of all teams at that level. Recent graduate Allison Fanta was among the leaders in the classrom during her career, receiving Capital One Academic All-District 7 first team honors each of the past two seasons with a cumulative GPA of 3.97 as a business management major.
