GRATZ NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Monday, November 7, 2011
Junior midfield/defender Kelsey Gratz was the University of Minnesota Duluth's lone soccer player to be named to the 2011 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/U.S. Bank All-Tournament Team.
The team, announced on Nov. 7, consists of eleven players from four different schools who demonstrated exceptional skill throughout the season as well as during post-season tournament play. Upper Iowa University, St. Cloud State University and Minnesota State University-Mankato were the three other NSIC squads represented on the team.
The Bulldogs faced Augustana College in their first round of the NSIC/U.S. Bank Tournament on Nov. 2. UMD came away with a 2-1 home victory to send it on to the second round. There they battled MSU and were elimated from the tournament after falling 4-0 to the Mavericks.
The Eagan, Minn. native contributed four shots with three shots on net, for a team-high shots on goal percentage of .750 during NSIC/U.S. Bank Tournament play. Gratz, a starter in both of UMD's conference tournament matches, also helped UMD's backfield hold their opponents to 25 total shots and five goals throughout the two games.
Gratz was awarded with All-NSIC honorable mention status after her third year starting as a Bulldog. She has secured three goals during her junior season, one of which being the game-winning goal in UMD's 1-0 double overtime victory against NSIC rival Northern State University. Gratz has contributed 22 total shots to the Bulldogs' total this season, with 12 shots being on net for a shots on goal percentage of .545.
