Captained the football Bulldogs as a senior in 1947 ...Served in that same capacity for the basketball contingent the previous winter and paced the club in scoring ...Selected Minnesota-Duluth's Senior Class President and its Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1947-48 ...Received first collegiate head coaching assignment at Arizona State in 1955 and compiled a glittering 27-3-0 record during a three-year stay in Tempe ... His 1957 club was the first unbeaten and nationally ranked team in Sun Devil history ... Appointed as the University of Missouri's head coach the following season ... Headed the Tiger program for 11 years and coached the only school in the nation which didn't lose more than three games in a single season during the 1960s ... Assumed the head coach and general manager position for the NFL's Green Bay Packers in 1971, a post he held for four years ... Guided the Packers to the 1972 NFC Central Division title ... Chosen the United Press International and the Pro Football Writer's of America NFC Coach of the Year that season ... Spent six prosperous seasons (1975-80) as the head coach at the University of Notre Dame ... Coached the Fighting Irish to a national championship in 1977 ... Member of the National Football Foundation, Missouri, and Arizona State Halls of Fame ... passed away in 2002 at the age of 77.
