Football Offensive/Defensive End (1954-57)

Was an All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection and team co-captain with the 1957 Bulldogs ... started at both offensive and defensive end four years ... received the Bulldogs' Duce Rasmussen Outstanding Lineman Award for the second year in a row in 1957 ... named the school’s Outstanding Senior Athlete for 1957-58 ... remained at UMD the following fall to work on the coaching staff for newly-appointed head coach Jim Malosky ... went on to embarked on a 15-year head coaching career at a pair of Duluth high schools -- Morgan Park and Central, his alma mater) ... spent 12 seasons (1960-71) at Morgan Park High School and guided the Wildcats to undefeated seasons in 1963, 1969 and 1970 and to the first two Prep Super Bowl games against the Iron Range Conference champion ... took over as Central High School’s head coach in 1972 (succeeding John Vucinovich, a charter member of the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame) and held that appointment for three seasons ... retired from his teaching position (history and physical education) with the Duluth Public Schools in 1993 ... graduated from UMD in 1958 with Bachelor of Science degrees in physical education and social studies ... was a member of the Duluth Junior Football League's Founding Committee and also established the physical education program at Duluth Central High School ... died in 2008.
