Was a four-time varsity letterman and a three-year regular with the basketball Bulldogs ... landed All-Northern Intercollegiate Conference second team honors three times (1943, 1947 and 1948) ... captained the 1947-48 Bulldogs ... served as Minnesota-Duluth's freshman team coach in 1949-50 ... launched a storied 36-year high school career following his graduation from Minnesota-Duluth in 1950 ... spent two years at Mandan (ND) High School (1950-52) and three more at Jamestown (ND) High School (1952-55) before beginning his 31-season run at Duluth Central High School (1955-86) ... coached Duluth Central to nine berths in the Minnesota State High School Tournament and three state titles (1961, 1971 and 1979) and three runner-up finishes (1969, 1977 and 1986) ... rolled up an overall prep coaching record of 543-236 ... was inducted into the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1988 and the MSHS Basketball Coaches Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1983.
