Skated in more lifetime games (174 of a possible 175) than anyone in the history of UMD hockey ... co-captained UMD to its second straight Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular season and playoff titles and its second NCAA Frozen Four appearance in as many years as a senior en route to attaining All-WCHA honorable mention honors for a second consecutive time ... completed his collegiate playing days with 83 points and racked up 193 lifetime penalties for 402 minutes – both program records ... was chosen to the 21-player All-DECC Team in 2010 ...  qualified for the WCHA All-Academic team as a junior and senior ... joined the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1985-86, launching a 13-year NHL career that also consisted of stints with the Minnesota/Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals and Phoenix Coyotes ... retired in 1998 having played in 829 regular season NHL games with 195 points (29 goals and 166 assists) to show for it ... represented the United States at the IIHF World Championships on four occasions and at the 1991 Canada Cup series ... later spent four years with the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes as a consultant to the general manager, broadcast analyst and an assistant coach ... was also an U.S. assistant coach at three straight IIHF World Junior championships (2000-02) and served as the Director of Player Development for the Arizona Amateur Hockey Association ... was employed by the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2008-09 season as their Development Coach ... started the following year as an assistant coach for the Norfolk Admirals before being promoted to the head coaching position with that American Hockey League club ... posted a record of 15-5-0-2 (.727) in his 22 games behind the Admiral bench and ended up finishing the year back in Tampa assistant coaching the Lightning ... assumed those same duties with the Washington Capitals in November 2011 after coaching professionally in Switzerland the previous year and half ... was hired as an assistant coach with another NHL franchise, the San Jose Sharks, in July 2012 ... is a native of New Hope, Minn..
