Enjoyed a sparkling, albeit brief, athletic stint at Minnesota-Duluth (Duluth State Teacher's College) after transferring from Virginia Junior College in 1934 ... secured All-Northern Intercollegiate Conference basketball honors in 1934-35 and 1935-36 ... captained Bulldogs to a 19-2 overall record and an NIC basketball crown as a senior ... led club in scoring that same season for second straight time ... competed in eight different individual track events and once personally outscored Bemidji State University 28-25 in a 1935 dual meet ... held the positions of Athletic Director, head football, boy's basketball, and boy's golf coach at Duluth Cathedral High School for 13 years (1936-49) following his graduation from UMD... later served as the head football and hockey coach at Duluth Central High School from 1949-72 ... coached football Trojans to 10 City Conference championships ... his 1953-54 hockey squad was the first Duluth team to ever qualify for the Minnesota State High School Tournament ... scouted professionally for the Houston Oilers of the National Football League ... was a radio color commentator for Bulldog football with WEBC and WDSM ... inducted into the Minnesota High School Football Hall of Fame in 1978 and the NIC Hall of Fame 12 years later ... grew up in Gilbert, Minn.
