NIC basketball scoring leader (1937-38) ... helped lead the Bulldogs to two NIC football (1934 and 1937) and three basketball titles (1935-37) ... known as "Fats" during his collegiate athletic career ... graduated from Minnesota-Duluth (Duluth State Teacher's College) in 1938 ... played professional football with the Detroit Lions (1938) and Cleveland Rams (1939) as a blocking back and professional basketball with the Oshkosh All-Stars (1939-42) in the National Basketball League ... was a member of the NBL championship clubs for Oshkosh in 1940-41, and 1941-42 ... retired in 1978 after a 35-year teaching and coaching career at Gilbert (1944-45), Sauk Centre (1945-54), and Greenway High Schools (1954-78) in Minnesota ... coached primarily football and boys' basketball at those institutions but also headed the track, wrestling and golf programs at various periods of time as well ... served as Greenway's Junior High School principal from 1967-78 ... is a charter member of the NIC Hall of Fame (1986).
