HICKEL AND LACQUETTE NAMED TO ALL-WCHA SECOND TEAM

University of Minnesota Duluth seniors Zoe Hickel and Brigette Lacquette were both named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Assocations All-WCHA Second Team today.

The honor is the first of its kind for the rising Hickel, who has increased her offensive output every year as a Bulldog, but was never recognized by the league.  The native of Anchorage, Alaska, exploded for a team-high 19 goals, and combined with 13 assists, gave her a team-best 32 points (also a career high).  Hickel ran off two, 10 game scoring-streaks this season, and had six multiple-point games, including a hat-trick and assist for four points against Lindenwood back on Oct. 26.  She finishes her career with 46 goals and 47 assists for 93 points in 138 career games.  Hickel, already named a 2014-15 WCHA Scholar Athlete, is also top-five finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.

For Lacquette, a defenseman from Mallard Manitoba, it marks a career that boasts of recognition every season she has worn the Bulldog sweater.  Lacquette was also named to the 2012-13 All-WCHA Second Team as a sophomore and the 2011-12 All-WCHA Rookie Team as a freshman (Lacquette only competed three full seasons at UMD).  This season, Lacquette -- who missed last season centralized with the Canadian Olympic Team -- recorded 25 points on seven goals and 18 assists over 35 games.  Lacquette's 25 points marks a career season-high, as does her 18 helpers.  The blueliner leaves UMD after personally rearranging the record books among all-time defensemen in the program.  Lacquette ranks No. 3 all-time with 20 goals, No. 6 with 49 asssits and with 69 points, she is the seventh all-time scoring blueliner in UMD history in just three years and 105 games.

Both Lacquette and Hickel have bright futures on their respective national teams.  Hickel will be representing Team USA in April in her first senior national team duties for the IIHF Women's World Championship.  Lacquette spent a week training at the Canadian National Women's Team training camp that ran from Jan. 26-30.  Canada has not yet named their roster for the 2015 IIHF Women's World Championship.
