University of Minnesota Duluth made it a perfect three-for-three in 2015 meet team titles Saturday morning by capturing its second straight Roy Griak Invitational Maroon Division championship at the Les Bolstad Golf Course on the University of Minnesota campus. It also marked the fourth time the Bulldogs have prevailed at this event in the past seven years (2009, 2010, 2014 and 2015).
"To come home as the team champion at such a prestigious event like the Griak Invitational for two years is very special," said UMD head coach
Joanna Warmington. "Our team ran great this morning and were rewarded for their efforts. We still, however, have some work to do with a couple months to go in the season."
No. 4-ranked UMD placed three individuals among the top dozen collegiate runners on its way to posting a team score of 83 points -- 10 ahead of runnerup Northern Michigan University. All-Americans
Breanna Colbenson (22:38.5),
Emi Trost (22:55.2) and
Hannah Olson (23:10.6) paced the Bulldogs with 3rd, 6th, and 10th-place finishes, respectively, in the 360-runner race. Rookie
Allyson Girard (24:07.6) came in at 31st while sophomore
McKenzie Holt (33rd place; 24:10.9) and senior
Erica Seidenkranz (34th; 24.13.8) were right behind. Sophomore
Amber Seidenkranz (43rd; 24:27.9) was the next Bulldog to cross the 6K finish line.
The Bulldogs are now off until Oct. 9 when they'll head to Sauk Rapids, Minn., for St. Cloud State University's Bob Waxlax Invitational.
