UMD ADDS A PAIR TO 2017 CLASS IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

Universit of Minnesota Duluth head coach Matt Bowen has announced that Wisconsin high school standouts Bailey Kale and Adam Smith have signed on to attend and play basketball for the Bulldogs in 2017-18

22393A 6-foot-1-inch guard, Kale will join the Bulldogs out of La Crosse Central High School. Kale is a three-year starter for head coach Todd Fergot and the Red Raiders. Following the 2015-16 season, Kale earned All-State and All-Mississippi Valley Conference honors. Kale averaged 16.5 points and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 41% from three-point range last season. The left-hander is also a multi-position player for the Central High School football team, taking snaps at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and cornerback. Kale is planning to major in music at UMD.



22392Smith, a 6-foot-2 guard frpm Kaukauna High School, announced his commitment to play for the Bulldogs. Smith is a three year starter for head coach Mike Schalow (father of current Bulldog Kyle Schalow) and the Ghosts, earning All-Fox Valley Association first team and All-State honorable mention accolades. The guard led Kaukauna High School to its first Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championship during the 2016 season. Smith also holds the Ghosts all-time record for shooting efficiency. Smith is planning to major in education at UMD.



All signings are contingent upon admission to UMD and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
