MYER LAYS CLAIM TO SECOND NSIC NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR IN THREE WEEKS

Sophomore forward Brandon Myer is starting to make a name of himself in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as he was named the conference's North Division Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday. He is only one of three players in the NSIC to have multiple weekly citations. Myer took home with first honor back on Dec. 20, 2017. Pierre Newton who accomplished that feat back in 2015-16, was the last Bulldog to earn at least two players of the week awards for UMD.

Myer averaged 24.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in the Bulldogs' first weekend sweep since Jan. 9-10, 2016. The Superior, Wis., native shot 47.6 percent on the floor including 40.0 percent from three and posted his third double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds in a 75-71 come-from-behind win over the University of Minnesota Crookston. He came through in crunch time as he hit the go-ahead shot with 48 seconds remaining to knock off the Golden Eagles. On Saturday, Myer scored 21 points with seven boards in a 62-57 win over Bemidji State University.

It been a breakout year for the local sophomore as an injury derailed most of his freshman campaign. Myer averaged 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 18 games last year. This season, Myer has 19.9 points and 7.9 rebounds, which currently ranks sixth in the NSIC. He is also fourth in blocks at 1.2.

The Superior H.S. product has led the team in scoring in seven consecutive outings, scoring 20-plus points in each game dating back to Dec. 9. His remarkable consistency marks him as the first Bulldog this century to record that stretch of 20-point games. Myer also had back-to-back 30-point efforts, when he notched his first player of the week, making him the first Bulldog since Ryan Rasmussen to achieve that mark dating back to the 2011-12 season

UMD is back to action this Friday and Saturday when it travels to Winona State University and Upper Iowa University.
