BULLDOGS TRAVEL TO LEE KROUGH INVITATIONAL

THE MEET: The University of Minnesota-Duluth men's track & field team will participate at the 2003 Lee Krough Invitational on Saturday, April 12, on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m. while running events are slated for 12:30 p.m.

THE COACH: A 12-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year honoree (indoor in 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002 and 2003; outdoor in 1994-96, 1998, 2000 and 2002), Bill Hudspith is in his 15th season as a UMD coach. Hudspith has directed the Bulldog men to nine of the last 10 NSIC outdoor track titles and nine of the last 11 NSIC indoor crowns Hudspirth's teams have produced NCAA II indoor and outdoor All-Americans on 14 occasions.

BULLDOG BITS: UMD placed second out of 11 teams at the Central (IA) College Invitational on April 5, which opened the 2003 outdoor season for the Bulldogs ... Ben Kimmes won the 10,000 meters and passed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard with a time of 31:15.49. His mark is the ninth best in NCAA II this season and the third best individaul performance in that event in the past 11 years of the NSIC ranking only behind Dan Pemble of Bemidji State and UMD All-American Andy Hopkins during that time period. Adam Gellerstedt won the 800 (1:58.82) and Andy Wenger placed second (2:03.20). Robb Winterfeld claimed top honors in the 1,500 (4:04.70) and the 5,000 (15:16.79). Dan Soldner won the shot put (15.66m) and discus (157-10) and was third in the hammer throw (43.17m). Greg DeMain recorded a pair of second place finishes in the 200 (:22.43) and the 400 (:50.50). Derek Holbus was second in the 110-meter hurdles (:16.27) and triple jump (43-1) and third in the 400 hurdles (58.18).
