FORMER UMD WRESTLING STANDOUT HOY AMONG 2004 NSIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

Jerry Hoy, arguably one of the most prolific wrestlers to ever don a pair of University of Minnesota Duluth singlets, is one of six athletes, and the lone Bulldog representive, in this year's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Hall of Fame induction class.

The group will be officially enshrined on July 23 at the Holiday Inn and Willman Convention Center.

Hoy rolled up an overall invidual record of 103-18-1 (for an. 848 winning percentage) during his four years (1978-82) with the Bulldogs. He attained All-American honors as a senior after placing second in the 118 pound weight class at the NCAA Division II Championships and captained UMD to its first ever NSIC title that same year. Hoy, who remains the only Bulldog individual to compete in an NCAA I national event, having accomplished that feat at the 1982 Championships in Ames, IA, finished his farewell season as the 13th-ranked 118 pounder in all of college wrestling. One year earlier, the Apple Valley, MN, native set a school record for winning percentage (.917 on a 33-3-0 individual mark) -- a standard which stood for 14 years. Voted UMD's Outstanding Male Senior Athlete for 1981-82, Hoy went on to win a pair of U.S. Air Force individual championsphips (1986 and 1987) as well as the 1987 U.S. Armed Forces title. He graduated from UMD in 1983 a B.A.S. degree in industrial technology.
