TWO BULLDOGS EARN ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

The University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team may not have advanced to the 2005 Frozen Four, but they did receive awards this weekend. Two of the Bulldogs 2004-2005 teammates were honored with a 2005 CCM All-American award. Senior captain Caroline Ouellette was named to the first team, while fellow senior Julianne Vasichek was named to the second team.

Ouellette, a senior from Montreal, Quebec, was a first-team All-WCHA pick and was named the 2005 WCHA Scholar-Athlete. She led the league with 28 goals and tied for second with 67 points. She was also an JOFA All-American First Team pick from a season ago.

Ouellette finished out her career at UMD with 229 total points, good for third on the all time point charts. She also finished second on the assist charts with 137 and fifth on the goals boards with 97, all in just three season with the Bulldogs.

While Ouellette earned a space on the All-American team she was not selected as the 2005 Patty Kazmaier Winner. This is the third season that the Bulldogs have had a player in the Top-3 for the best player in women’s college hockey, but have yet to earn the top prize.

Vasichek, a senior from Great Falls, Mont., was also named to the All-WCHA second team and ranked second in the league in scoring among defensmen with 28 points.

The teams leading defenseman, Vasichek finished the season with a personal high 30 points. She finishes her four-year career with 77 points, including 55 assists in 138 games played.

The Bulldogs tied with the University of Wisconsin and Harvard University for the most players named to the 12 member team. A total of eight Western Collegiate Hockey Association players made the list of 12.
