BORDER BATTLE AWAITS BULLDOGS IN HOME OPENER TUESDAY

Kenzie Kane (21) and the Bulldogs will look to get back above .500 with a win in the home opener.
The University of Minnesota Duluth returns home for the annual border battle with the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday night at Romano Gym.

UMD (1-1) opened its season with a split at the Missouri S&T tournament and put up big-time offensive numbers in defeating the host Miners before falling to Pitt State in a rare Saturday morning match-up. Five Bulldogs hit double-figures scoring in game one, and UMD continued to spread the ball around with four in the next game.

Senior center Hannah Rutten had a double-double in game one with 16 points and 12 boards and followed it up with an 18-point, seven-rebound showing in game two. Rutten had four steals, a pair of blocks, and an assist on the weekend.

About the Yellowjackets
UWS (1-1) opened its season at the Guinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament with a pair of games against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic conference competition, falling to the hosts of St. Benedict before defeating Macalester in game two. Sally Linzmeier leads the way for UWS with a 19.0 points per game average. She has nearly averaged a double-double while also hauling in 19 boards in the 'Jackets' two games.

UMD is 21-4 all-time against Superior including a 77-65 victory at Romano Gym last season.

Fans are encouraged to bring canned good as the Bulldogs collect for a food drive for Champ's Cupboard during the bridge battle. UMD and UWS are set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's game.
