BULLDOGS UNABLE TO SOLVE NO. 2 WISCONSIN IN 2-0 LOSS

Box Score If college hockey fans expected the University of Minnesota Duluth to lie down for the next five weeks without its two Olympians, they will be sorely disappointed.

The Bulldogs threw everything they could at the No. 2 University of Wisconsin and then some Sunday afternoon at Labahn Arena in a 2-0 loss that was anything but what the final score suggested.  Sophmore goaltender Kayla Black was outstanding between the pipes for UMD with 36 saves, as was Badger netminder Alex Rigsby despite only turning away 17 shots.

UW's first goal of the game came on a power-play with 1:17 remaining in the first period.  Three of the Badgers five goals on the weekend were with an extra skater, and although UW skated into the weekeng boasting the nation's No. 2 power-play and went just 1-of-6 on Sunday, no question missing two of its best penalty killers in blueliner Lara Stalder and Tea Villila hampered the Bulldogs best intentions.

After each side put up 10 shots in the second stanza, the Badgers withstood a few scares by UMD before Sara Nurse skated in on Black across the slot, switched to her backhand and managed to push the puck in at the 14:57 mark of the third period to secure the series sweep for Wisconsin.

UMD (11-10-5, 9-8-5) will continue its travel outside Duluth limits when it heads to Bemidji, Minn. this weekend to play the Bemidji State University.  Game-time Friday is set for 7:07 p.m., while Saturday is slated for 4:07 p.m.
