UMD FACES FINAL EXHIBITION TEST AT WISCONSIN BEFORE SEASON LID-LIFTER SATURDAY

The University of Minnesota Duluth will conclude its preseason exhibition season on Wednesday night against a Big Ten Conference tournament team a season ago in the the University of Wisconsin Badgers before opening up the regular season on Saturday with Michigan Tech University visiting Romano Gym.

UMD opened the preseason with a 67-62 win over Bethel University last Saturday at Romano Gym and will look to maintain that momentum going into the regular season.

FREE THROWS
• The Bulldogs' senior class led the way against BU last Saturday. Jessica Newman was 7-for-13 from the floor with a game-high 20 points. Danielle Flood added 18 points while hauling in five rebounds, while Alyssa Kerkhoff led the way with seven boards.
• UMD will hope to get more out of its young players now that first-game jitters are passed. Freshman Anna Monke netted her first collegiate points on a 2-for-4 night, and sophomore Kenzie Kane had six rebounds, but the Bulldogs got just nine points and 10 fouls off its bench. UMD shot 36.8 percent in the game but its starters were 44.7 percent from the floor against Bethel.

15068Wisconsin (2013-14: 10-19, 3-13 Big Ten) knocked off UMD's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Winona State University in the 2013-14 preseason but couldn't turn non-conference momentum into a successful conference season a year ago. The Badgers defeated the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 94-55 on Sunday in Madison.
• Senior Michala Johnson returns after a First Team All-Conference selection a season ago. The 6-foot-3-inch post player led the Badgers with 16.5 points per game in the regular season, fifth-best in the Big Ten. She also led the conference, shooting 56.8 percent in league games.
• UW graduated three of its top five scorers but does also return senior forward Jackie Gulczynski, who averaged 7.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 39.8 percent for the Badgers.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES (Saturday, Nov 15, 12:00 p.m.) - Live Video/Stats
15171Michigan Tech (2013-14: 19-9, 16-6 GLIAC) knocked off Finlandia 107-56 in a preseason exhibition last time out. The Huskies fell to Northern Michigan in the GLIAC tournament semifinals after an impressive season. UMD knocked off then-No. 22 Michigan Tech on Nov. 23 last season, 84-80.
• Junior Danielle Blake earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors and an All-GLIAC Tournament Team selection a year ago. Blake led the Huskies in rebounding at 6.7 per game, blocks with 52 on the season, and minutes with 32 per game. She record three double-doubles and four 20-plus point games a season ago.
• Junior guard Mackenzie Perttu returns after leading Tech in scoring a year ago, averaging 15.7 points per game en route to an All-GLIAC First Team selection of her own. She had nine 20-plus point games in 2013-14.

The Bulldogs and Badgers will close out the exhibition season Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. before UMD returns home to host Michigan Tech at Noon on Saturday.
