BULLDOGS COMPLETE TWO-SPORT SWEEP OF NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE WITH LATE SURGE

The University of Minnesota Duluth outscored Northwest Missouri State University 17-8 in the game's final ten minutes, completing a two-sport sweep, along with UMD football, knocking off the Bearcats 68-58 on Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Missouri.

UMD (2-2) bounced back after a tough defeat Friday by taking a second-half lead and putting away Northwest Missouri (1-4).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Junior forward Taylor Meyer netted a career-high 34 points on 11-of-18 shooting to lead the Bulldogs in victory. Danielle Flood added 19, including nine at the the free-throw line while leading UMD with eight rebounds.
• Ariel Easton had 19 points to lead three Bearcats with double digits scoring, while Taylor Shull had six boards to lead NWMSU.

For the second straight night, the Bulldogs didn't get off to a hot start, just 10-of-32 in the first half but got 14 chances at the free throw line and made good on 12 to take a 35-30 lead to the locker room. Northwest Missouri battled back in the second half, taking a multi-point lead for the first time in the game at 48-45 with 11:13 remaining on a pair of free throws by Samantha Hurst, but lay-ups by Flood and freshman forward Anna Monke gave UMD a lead at 49-48 before Easton and Meyer traded lay-ups leading into a media timeout. From there, the Bulldogs would outscore Northwest Missouri 17-8 in the final 9:52, taking its game-high lead of 10 when Flood netted six free throws in the final two minutes to secure victory.

UMD will dive straight into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play next weekend when they start a three-game road trip against NSIC North Division foes beginning Saturday afternoon at St. Cloud State University. Opening tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
