The Bulldogs played 60 minutes of brilliant hockey Sunday afternoon and have the win to show for it.

The No. 7 University of Minnesota Duluth earned a series split with Bemidji State University at AMSOIL Arena with a 2-1 triumph over the Beavers, porpping the Bulldogs back up into fourth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, just four points from Ohio State University, currently sitting in third place.

UMD never trailed on Sunday, and struck first on a wrist shot from Katerina Mrázovå after Zoe Hickel slid the puck over to Mrázová on a break.  The Bulldogs goal at 4:14 of the first period was matched by BSU just 18 seconds later, however, and Stephanie Anderson drew the Beavers even at 1-1.

That score would hold until late in the second period, when UMD senior Brienna Gillanders tipped Bridgette Lacquette's shot from the point past BSU Brittni Mowat on the power play with just 52 seconds remaining in the stanza.  Gillanders' goal was her fourth tally on the year, and Jenna McParland was credited with an assist along with Lacquette.

Gillanders' goal was all the Bulldogs would need, holding the Beavers silent on four power play attempts and outshooting BSU 39-24.  Kayla Black had 23 saves on the day en route to her 12th win of the season.  Beaver netminder Brittni Mowat had 37 saves for BSU, and finished with 74 in the series.

"I thought we played a complete 60 minutes today as a team, and obviously put the puck in the net just one more time than yesterday," said head coach Shannon Miller.  "A lot of quality chances yesterday but we didn't put them in. A lot of quality chances today, buried two, won the game."

UMD (13-6-3, 8-6-7-2) will continue its current homestand next weekend when it hosts St. Cloud State University next Saturday and Sunday.  Both game times are slated for 3:07 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES:  UMD is now 12-2-1 over its last 15 games ... All-time, the Bulldogs are 61-6-2 against the Beavers and finish the regular season 2-2 against BSU ... Zoe Hickel has recorded at least a point in her last three skates with two goals and an assst.
