WILES CELEBRATES 400 CAREER WINS AS BULLDOGS BOUNCE BEMIDJI STATE

The University of Minnesota Duluth celebrated 400th victories in the career of head coach Annette Wiles as the Bulldogs knocked off Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division rival Bemidji State University by a 78-65 final at Romano Gymnasium on Friday evening.

UMD (6-7, 4-5 NSIC) earned a season sweep of the Beavers (5-9, 2-7 NSIC) in snapping a two-game losing skid since the turn of the calendar to 2015.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Junior forward Taylor Meyer led the way with a career-high 37 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, while senior guard Jessica Newman added 21 points and five assists. The pair carried the brunt of the load for UMD, which got just six points in nearly 30 minutes off its bench.
• The Beavers were led by freshman center Sierra Senske, who posted a second-straight double-digit scoring output against UMD with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Afton Kuehndorf had 14 points off the bench for the Beavers, going 6-of-7 for BSU.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start offensively and defensively, pitching a shutout through the first 4:46 of the game as they broke off to an 11-0 and eventual 20-4 lead. The Beavers hit five threes in the first half to inch back into it, but UMD held them at bay by shooting 5-of-11 from beyond the arc themselves, holding a 10-point halftime deficit. Meyer (21) and Newman (11) had each cracked double digits before the break, while Kuehndorf had 10 on 4-for-4 shooting in the opening frame. UMD cooled off offensively in the second half, shooting just 29.6 percent but made good on 17-of-19 trips to the charity stripe courtesy of 13 second-half fouls by Bemidji State.

As a team, UMD shot 35.8 percent on the night while Bemidji went 44.1 percent from the floor. The Bulldogs took 28 trips to the free throw line for 24 points while the Beavers were just 6-of-9 at the line.
