UMD UNABLE TO SOLVE NO. 9 BEMIDJI STATE IN 2-0 SETBACK

Box Score Brittni Mowat had the University of Minnesota women's hockey team number again Friday night.

The Bemidji State University junior goaltender denied all 31 of the Bulldogs shot attempts in the Beavers 2-0 win over UMD at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.  Despite outshooting the Beavers 31-30 in the skate, the Bulldogs drop to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

UMD fell behind early in the first period on a BSU goal that came at the 7:26 mark, and the Beavers doubled down on that lead with 3:27 remaining in the first.  After the Bulldogs were outshot 13-10 in the opening stanza, they mustered 21 shots to BSU's 17 in the final 40 minutes, but simply were unable to solve Mowat, who is 4-0-0 this season for the 4-0-1 overall Beavers.

Senior goaltender Kayla Black started the game and had 11 saves in the first period.  Rookie netminder Maddie Rooney manned the pipes for the final two periods of action, turning away 17 shots in her second game as a Bulldog.

Both teams will hit the ice again tomorrow afternoon, with game-time set for 2:07 p.m.
