UMD SEEKS SEASON SWEEPS IN BEMIDJI & CROOKSTON THIS WEEKEND

The University of Minnesota Duluth will travel up Highway-2 this weekend to play a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division rivals seeking season sweeps of Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota, Crookston in the process.

UMD (3-8, 3-5 NSIC) picked up its third home victory in a row over the weekend to start the season's second have against Concordia University, St. Paul but slipped up in game two of 2016 against Minnesota State University, Mankato.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS | 5-7, 1-7 NSIC
10207Bemidji State has scuffled through the first half of conference play and suffered three straight defeats, including a 71-66 setback last time out agianst the University of Mary ... the Bulldogs knocked off the Beavers 81-79 in triple overtime when the teams met in Duluth on Dec. 5, 2015 earlier this season ... junior guard Aimee Pelzer leads Bemidji State averaging 15.3 points per game on the season while also grabbing a team-best 6.0 rebounds per outing ... Pelzer had 23 points and nine rebounds against UMD, while sophomore Sierra Senske had a double-double with 22 and 11 ... Senske averages 13.3 points and matches Pelzer with 6.0 boards per game ... head coach Chelsea DeVille is leading Bemidji State in her first season ... the Bulldogs are 62-16 all-time against BSU following their victory earlier this season.

10208Minnesota Crookston slipped up twice on one weekend of conference play, falling against both UMD and St. Cloud State University and has won five straight since that week ... the Bulldogs knocked off the Golden Eagles 71-65 at Romano Gym on Dec. 4, 2015 earlier this season ... senior forward Katrina Nordick leads Minnesota Crookston averaging 16.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game on the season ... Nordick matched senior guard Alexa Thielmann with a team-high 17 points against the Bulldogs, while sophomore center Emily Gruber had 12 rebounds against UMD ... Thielmann averaged 15.1 points per game, while Gruber averages 6.8 rebounds per game ... head coach Mike Roysland is in his tenth season leading Minnesota Crookston ... the Bulldogs are 30-1 all-time against the Golden Eagles.

UMD stretched a home winning streak to three games with a 74-64 defeat of Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon but slipped up against Minnesota State 71-67 on Sunday in the team's return from holiday break ... freshman forward Emma Boehm had a career night against Minnesota State, scoring 19 points while grabbing six rebounds for the Bulldogs ... junior center Allyson Harris led the Bulldogs averaging 12.0 points per game, knocking back three blocks on the weekend ... sophomore forward Anna Monke led UMD with a career-high 14 points against Concordia-St. Paul; five Bulldogs reached double figures against the Golden Bears.
