The University of Minnesota Duluth Women's Basketball team used a productive fourth quarter to overpower Southwest Minnesota State University 61-48 Friday night in Marshall, Minn.

The Bulldogs (4-3; 3-1 NSIC) outscored the Mustangs (1-7; 1-3 NSIC) 20-6 in the fourth, which included an 18-0 run by UMD to take a decisive 59-45 lead on its way to its third straight win.

UMD and SMSU battled close early on, having six lead changes in the first quarter alone. The Mustangs held the Bulldogs to just six points in the second quarter on a dismal 3-17 shooting in the second to take a sizeable 31-22 first half lead.

After falling behind by nine points at the halfway mark, UMD turned up the heat to hold SMSU to just 17 second-half points. Led by an eight-point effort from senior forward Taylor Meyer, the Bulldogs ripped off 18 straight points in just 5:54 of work in the fourth. Meyer finished with a team-high 18 points on 7-15 shooting, went 4-4 at the line, and tied for a team-high seven rebounds with freshman forward Katie Stark. UMD went a perfect 8-8 at the free-throw line tonight, compared to a 10-18 effort by SMSU.

UMD will look to complete its weekend sweep against face Sioux Falls (7-1: 3-1 NSIC) on Saturday (Dec. 10) with tipoff at 4 p.m. The Cougars are coming into the game off an overwhelming 74-51 victory against the St. Cloud State Huskies. The Bulldogs are currently riding a three-game win streak, their first such streak since February of 2014.
