Nearly 700 anglers converged on Island Lake just north of Duluth Sunday afternoon to take part in the University of Minnesota Duluth's 16th annual Subway Big Jig Ice Fishing Contest and highlighting the list of prize winners was Kevin Hill, who reeled in the biggest fish of the day -- a
1.49-pound Northern -- and took home $4,000 for his efforts.
Jared Miller was next with a 1.46-pound walleye and won a three-day Houseboat trip from Voyagaire Houseboats while the third prize, a one-week stay at High Banks Resort, went to Paul Thomas (a 0.88-pound walleye).
Proceeds from this year's tournament will go to support the UMD athletic scholarship fund.
