The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team picked up three Western Collegiate Hockey Association points Friday night with a 2-1 win over Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The triumph is UMD's third-straight league success in a row, and now puts the Bulldogs at an impressive 5-2 record at AMSOIL Arena in the 2017 portion of the season.

After a scoreless opening period, the first goal of the game came at 15:38 of the second stanza.  As a Maverick power play ended, sophomore defenseman Jalyn Elmes tracked down a rebound and one-timed it past Katie Bidulka to give UMD the 1-0 lead.  The goal is Elmes fourth goal of the season, and makes her the second-highest goal scoring blueliner in the league so far this year. 

UMD's second goal — and eventual game-winner — came just 42 seconds into the third period.  A shot from sophomore Sydney Brodt took a long rebound off Bidulka, and Naomi Rogge greeted the puck on the far post for her team-high seventh goal of the season.  The goal also extended Rogge's current scoring streak to six games — a span that the rookie has posted four goals and three assists over for seven points.

MSU drew within a single goal with 5:08 remaining in regulation on a shot that was tipped past Jessica Convery by Emily Antony, but the Bulldogs thwarted any hope of a Maverick comeback.

Convery finished the game with 15 saves, while Bidulka made 29 for MSU, which falls to 2-10-1 overall and 1-8-0 in league play.  UMD outshot the Mavericks 31-16 in the contest, and have now outshot opponents in 11 of 14 games.

"We are settling in,'' said head coach Maura Crowell.  "We talk a lot about having 12 new players, and introducing them to your program and your system, it just takes some time.  As we get more comfortable with who we are, the wins are just starting to pile up."

The Bulldogs (6-8-0, 4-5-0) and Mavericks will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon at 4:07 p.m. at AMSOIL.  It will mark UMD's last home ice action of 2017.
