The University of Minnesota Duluth stormed all the way back from a 14-point second half deficit only to come up short in overtime to Michigan Technological University Monday night. The Bulldogs trailed by 14 to start the third quarter and by as much as 11 with just a little under two minutes remaining in the same quarter. UMD went on a 18-3 run that spanned a little over seven minutes to take the lead with 4:52 left in the game. The No. 21 Huskies found a way to get it to overtime and seal the game in the extra session 79-70.
UMD (1-1) was the first team all season to break to the 70-point mark on the Huskies (5-0). The Bulldogs caught fire in the second half shooting 44 percent overall and 60 percent from behind the arc. MTU, who shot a blistering 53 percent in the first half, was stagnant by the UMD defense as they shot only 29 percent after halftime. The Bulldogs have enjoyed early season success in the second half, holding the opposition to 18 percent shooting and outscoring them by 31 points. UMD has also dominated in the rebounding department as it gathered 47 boards, 17 on the offensive end. Last season, the Bulldogs were out rebounded and only averaged 32 per game. This season they are pulling down a staggering 53.5 board a game.

Sammy Kozlowski led all scorers with 19 points. She also collected 11 boards, tying MTU's Lindsay Winter for a share of the game-high. Kolowski was one of three UMD players to hit double digits. Sophomore forward

Michigan Tech got off to a fast start and led by as much as nine in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs had cut the margin to four before it expanded to 14 on a last second shot by Kelli Guy. The Huskies were directed by Hannah Stoll who scored 15 points in the opening 20 minutes. Stoll would not hit another field goal until the overtime period.
UMD got buckets from seven different players to barge back into the game. Stark scored with under four to play to put the Bulldogs up by four -- their biggest lead of the game. MTU tied it at 58 and took the lead before UMD tied it themselves to close the fourth quarter. The Huskies scored first to take the first lead of overtime. It would be the only lead as MTU made 7-of-8 free throws to pull away.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Wednesday at home. Lake Superior State University makes its first appearance at Romano Gymnasium since 2007. The game versus the Lakers will start at 5:30 p.m.
