BULLDOGS DISMANTLE WILDCATS 76-55 TO STAY PERFECT AT HOME

It was a downright dominating performance for the University of Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday as the Bulldogs improved to 4-0 at Romano Gymnasium after a 76-55 throttling of Northern Michigan University. The game was a part of Education Day at UMD where kids from schools in the local area were in attendance. UMD's 4-0 record at home is its best start since 2005-06. The Bulldogs were up by as much as 36 in the third quarter before going away with the 21-point victory, their third largest win of the year.

UMD (7-2) has held opponents under 60 points in seven of its nine games and is 6-1 in those games. In addition, six of the seven victories have come by double digits. The only win not to eclipse more than 10 was an eight-point win over Bemidji State University.

The Bulldogs got superb play from junior Emma Boehm. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native compiled a game-high 14 points and nailed four of her seven long range attempts. Senior Ayo Porte also played well, playing a team-high 23 minutes off the bench. The Osseo, Minn., forward tallied eight points, four rebounds and a career high four assists. Three of her dishes went to senior forward Allison Olley. Olley, the UMD two-sport athlete who was named an All-American middle blocker this fall, knocked down 11 points in her brief stint off the bench.

Sophomore guard Sammy Kozlowski didn't register any points on the day but she made her impact felt elsewhere. The reigning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division Player of the Week had seven assists, four steals and pulled down six boards.

There was no sluggish second quarter like this past Saturday as the Wildcats (6-7) were dominated in the final 10 minutes of the first half. The Bulldogs exploded to outpace the Wildcats 23-5 in the quarter. UMD trailed early in the first five minutes of play but went on a 8-0 run to knot the game at 10 and later finished the first tied at 16. The second quarter was spurred by a defense that allowed two field goals and converted on the fast break. UMD scored all six points on the fast break in that quarter and it all started with Kozlowski finding Porte then freshman guard Ann Simonet, who had 10 points.

The Bulldogs shot 40 percent from the floor and an even hotter 47 percent from three as they led for over 30 minutes. UMD also won in the second chance department outscoring the Wildcats 21-2. NMU hit 39 percent of its shots.

UMD will return to the court next Saturday, Dec. 30 on the road. UMD will head to Bismarck, N.D. to square off against University of Mary. That game will tip at 4:00 p.m.
