The Gophers wanted no part of a Bulldog comeback Saturday night.

One day after the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team earned a come from behind draw with the sixth-ranked University of Minnesota, the Gophers shutout the Bulldogs 5-0 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. to wrap up the 2017 portion of the season.  UMD is currently in fourth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with 17 points heading into the holiday break.

Minnesota generated all the offense it would need in late in the third period, scoring goals at 14:45, 15:26 and 18:50 for a 3-0 lead.  A power play goal gave the Gophers a 4-0 advantage 3:07 into the second period, and Minnesota struck with just nine seconds remaining in the stanza to widen UMD's deficit to 5-0.  

LIke Friday, the Bulldogs were outshot over the first 40 minutes (21-11) before outshooting the Gophers 7-3 in the third period.  Minnesota held the overall shots on goal advantage of 24-18 in the game, and netted a power play goal in three attempts while the Bulldogs went 0-of-3.  Freshman forward Naomi Rogge had a team-high five shots for the Bulldogs, who fall to 9-11-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the WCHA.

UMD's next action won't come until next year -- an exhibition game against the Korean National Team on Jan. 5 at AMSOIL Arena at 7:07 p.m.
