Bulldog head coach Maura Crowell wanted a few more goals in Friday night's 1-0 win, and Saturday afternoon, her squad delivered just that.

The No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth earned the series sweep over Penn State University with a 3-0 victory at AMSOIL Arena, shutting out the Nittany Lions for a second consecutive skate.  In addition to Jessica Convery's second clean sheet, the game also featured sophomore defenseman Jalyn Elmes second game-winning goal in as many days.

Unlike Friday night,  it took two periods for the Bulldogs to solve PSU's Hannah Ehresmann.  UMD peppered Ehresmann with 31 shots in the first two periods, but the Bulldogs finally took their first lead of the game at 7:55 of the third period on the power play. Elmes cashed in a Katerina Mrázová feed to the high slot with a slap shot through traffic, tying her total rookie goal output of a year ago in just her second game as a sophomore.

A little over four minutes later, the Bulldogs struck again.  Sophomore forward Sydney Brodt drove behind the PSU net and backhanded the puck back towards freshman forward Mallorie Iozzo, whose second effort pushed the puck under Ehresmann for the 2-0 lead at 13:10.

UMD sealed the series with 2:50 remaining in the game, arguably the highlight of a skate that had already produced quite the handful of highlights.  Mrázová slipped the puck between her legs and attempted to pass it across the crease.  The puck deflected right to a streaking Brodt on the back post who slammed it in for her first goal of the year and second point of the night.

"It was just a matter of time for the floodgates to open," said head coach Maura Crowell, who is now 5-0-1 in opening season series at the helm of the Bulldogs.  "I was proud of how we persevered through that frustrating scoreless 45 minutes, but we never quit." 

The Bulldogs backline allowed just 12 shots on Convery, who stopped them all en route to her second shutout of the weekend.  PSU's Ehresmann had 38 saves, and UMD outshot the Nittany Lions 41-12.  The Bulldogs, who improve to 2-0 overall,  had the lone power play of the game.

UMD travel Northeast next week to face Boston College in a Thursday - Friday series.  Thursday's game will get underway at 5:00 p.m. CST, while Friday's skate will drop the puck at 1:00 p.m. CST.
