Similar to what it has done all season, No. 8 Augustana University has blitzed through its opponents and unfortunately the University of Minnesota Duluth fell into similar territory on Friday evening. The Bulldogs were held to just 17 points in the first half in a 69-46 drubbing to the Vikings (18-1; 14-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference).
Augustana claimed its fourth straight victory and 17th win by double figures. The Bulldogs (11-7; 8-6 NSIC) dropped back-to-back games against ranked teams for the first time in 103 games dating back to Feb. 8, 2014.
Freshman guard
Ann Simonet was the only UMD player to reach double-digits in scoring after collecting 10 points on 4-of-17 shooting (23.5 percent). Simonet also raked in a career-high four steals while adding a pair of assists. UMD shot an atrocious 4-for-23 (17.4 percent) from three-point land which included 1-for-13 (7.7 percent) shooting in the first half from beyond the arc. The Vikings dominated the paint, outscoring the Bulldogs 36-18 down low.
UMD finishes its two-game road trip tomorrow in Wayne, Neb., as it encounters Wayne State College at 4:00 p.m. The Wildcats have the second highest scoring offense in the NSIC behind Augustana.
