NO. 14 UMD FOOTBALL RUNS AWAY FROM MINOT IN HOME OPENER

DULUTH, Minn. -- The University of Minnesota Duluth football program opened its 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a 52-7 triumph against Minot State on Thursday night at Malosky Stadium.

The No. 14 Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) got the 2019 campaign off to a hot start, reaching the end zone on their first two drives. Junior quarterback John Larson hit sophomore running back Zach Ojile in the back corner of the endzone for the game's first score, two plays after Larson got loose on a 40-yard run to the Minot State (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) 10-yard line. On the next series, sophomore running back Wade Sullivan took a pitch to the left and dove for the pylon to score his first touchdown of the season and the tenth of his Bulldog career. UMD would find the endzone twice more in the second quarter, including a 38-yard strike from Larson to junior wide receiver Quincy Woods to help build a 28-7 halftime advantage.

Larson finished the game completing 16 of 28 passes for 279 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also picked up 77 yards rushing on just six carries. Sullivan led the Bulldogs in rushing with 85 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns and Woods led the team in receiving with five catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
