Today the 2021 Northern Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships carried on from the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. All of the qualifying members of the University of Minnesota Duluth Men's Track and Field Team were in action with the last four Decathlon Events and the start of the open events.Â

The Decathlon 110-meter hurdles led the day off for UMD. Ian O'Connor placed fourth in the event posting a time of 15.77 seconds, Caden Dupee finished seventh in the event posting a time of 16.15 seconds, and Kyle Kucera posted a time of 18.73 seconds. Next up in the Decathlon was the Discus Throw, Ian O'Connor finished sixth in the event throwing a distance of 30.33 meters, Dupee came in, in the eight spot recording a distance of 28.65 meters, and Kucera posted a top ten finish in the event registering a distance of 27.16 meters. In the Pole Vault Kucera, Dupee, and O'Connor all placed in the top seven. Kucera cleared a height of 3.70 meters to finish in fifth, Dupee and O'Connor finished in a three-way tie for seventh clearing a height of 3.60 meters. The ninth event was the javelin throw, again Dupee, O'Connor and Kucera all finished in the top ten. Dupee finished fourth throwing a distance of 46.27 meters, O'Connor finished sixth throwing a distance of 39.97 meters and Kyle Kucera placed eighth with a distance of 35.65 meters. The final event in the Decathlon was the 1500 meter dash. O'Connor, Dupee, and Kucera all finished in the top six. O'Connor finished first with a time of 4:49.99, Dupee finished fourth with a time of 4:56.26, and Kucera finished sixth with a time of 5:00.59. Overall Dupee and O'Connor placed fourth and fifth respectively in the Decathlon. Dupee finished with 6,065 points and O'Connor with 6048 points. Kucera finished with 4,975 points.Â

Owen Smalley and Braydon Kubat both placed in the 3000 meter steeplechase for the Bulldogs. Smalley finished fourth in the event posting a time of 9:25.68 and garnering five points for UMD. Kubat finished eighth in the event with a time of 9:44.59 and garnered one team point for the Bulldogs.

Tyler Wanous placed seventh in the High Jump for UMD clearing a height of 1.90 meters and securing two team points for the Bulldogs.Â

Colton Kostynick placed eighth in the Shot Put for the Bulldogs throwing a distance of 15.55 meters or 51 feet and a quarter of an inch. Placing eighth overall secures one point for UMD.Â

Ben Palmquist successfully punched his ticket to the Championship race in the 110-meter hurdles. Palmquist ran the third fastest time at 15.13 seconds and placed second in his respective preliminary heat. Austin Have and Ben Palmquist both qualified for the championship race in the 400-meter hurdles. Have ran a time of 54.94 seconds and finished fifth overall and second in his respective preliminary heat. Palmquist ran a time of 55.14 seconds and finished third in his respective preliminary heat.Â

After day two and seven events officially scored the Bulldogs sit in seventh place overall accumulating 18 points in total. Augustana leads the way with 48 points.
