Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

NO. 5 BULLDOGS SETTLE FOR 1-1 TIE WITH ST. CLOUD STATE

The fifth-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team ended up with its first tie of the season Tuesday, a 1-1 effort against St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.  The tie runs the Bulldogs overall record to 20-9-1 and 17-8-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.

The low-scoring, low shooting affair saw both teams register a goal 49 seconds apart in the second period.  UMD struck first on Anneke Linser's third goal in three games at 8:49 of the frame.  Linser buried a rebound that came off Anna Klein's rip from the low circle for her sixth goal of the season.  Naomi Rogge had the secondary assist, feeding Klein in the circle, which extended the senior center's own current scoring streak to six points in three games  (2g, 4a).

The Huskies answered less than a minute later to knot the game at 1-1 and despite a Bulldog shots on goal effort of 13-5 in the third period and 3-1 in the 3-on-3 overtime, UMD had to settle for the tie.

The Bulldogs outshot St. Cloud 31-21 in the skate and held the Huskies scoreless in two power play attempts, including one at 16:03 of the third period. UMD – which wasn't awarded a power play on the afternoon – had 20 stops from sophomore goaltender Jojo Chobak.  Emma Polusny had 30 for SCSU, who took the extra WCHA point by winning the shootout.

The Bulldogs will carry their 10-game unbeaten streak against the Huskies into the weekend, where the two teams will finish up the regular season at AMSOIL Arena in a Friday-Saturday series that gets underway Friday at 3:01 p.m.
