THE MATCHUP The Bulldogs are back at home to play Upper Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.  In the all-time series, the Bulldogs lead 6-1. The last time UMD played Upper Iowa was on the road for their first game of the 2021 season. UMD came out victorious with a major 41-14 win. The Bulldogs dominated the game on all sides of play. They put up 530 total offensive yards and kept the Peacocks at 304 yards. On defense they had six sacks for a loss of 22 yards, and two interceptions. Marcus Glodowski added five of the total tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup. Offensively, the Bulldogs racked up the points, and put up a hard battle for UIU. Of the six touchdowns, one came from wide receiver Armani Carmickle who completed a 61 yard pass to score.
MILITARY APPRECIATION This weekend's football game will be the eighth annual Military Appreciation Night supporting Operation One Voice. The Bulldog's record on Military Appreciation night is 6-1, dating back to 2014. The largest win they had was in 2018 where they won 60-7 against MSU Moorhead.
LAST TIME OUT UMD Football is back after a trip to Mankato that ended in a tough loss. The Bulldogs fell to the Mavericks 17-10, putting them at an overall record of 1-1. MSU took the lead early on after an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown. After an eight play drive the Bulldogs kicked for a good field goal to get them on the board. The Bulldogs' defense notched three sacks for a loss of 26 yards and six tackles with a loss of 35 yards. Mac Strand contributed one of those sacks and one tackle both with 10 yard losses. Brad Dati and Marcus Glowdowski both had nine total tackles.
AMONG THE BEST Running back Wade Sullivan currently sits at sixth in the NSIC for total rushing yards. Sullivan has racked up 165 yards in two games. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS Upper Iowa is coming off a loss against MSU Moorhead. The final decision was 24-21. The Peacocks also lost their season opener against Northern State, where they got shut-out 30-0, giving them an overall record of 0-2. Their record puts them at the bottom of the NSIC South Division standings. UIU started the game off strong with a 14-0 lead but dropped it after Moorhead responded back with a touchdown in the first and 17 points in the second quarter. The Dragons led at the half 24-14. In hopes of tying it back up, the Peacocks scored a touchdown on a seven play drive for 74 yards. The touchdown was scored by wide receiver Cole Ewald who completed a deep left pass for 33 yards. In the air, Ewald leads his team with 153 receiving yards. Running back Desean Phillips totaled 77 rushing yards against the Dragons and scored one touchdown for the Peacocks. He leads on the ground with 99 rushing yards. Although they dropped the game, UIU still led in total offensive yards 299-271. The projected quarterback for the upcoming game is sophomore Marcus Orr. Orr has been the only QB to see action for the Peacocks this season. This will be his second season playing for UIU and currently has 1886 career passing yards. On the defensive side of the game, RJ Knaack posted 10 total tackles, and two tackles for a loss of eight yards. The defense also had two sacks for a loss of 14 yards and two fumble recoveries.
