The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey program named Emma Sobieck as an assistant coach Friday.
Sobieck will join Bulldog head coach Maura Crowell's staff, and will serve alongside associate head coach Laura Bellamy and assistant coach Laura Schuler.

I am extremely passionate about student-athlete development and success and am eager to begin my next chapter here."
Sobieck spent the past two seasons as a member of the Bemidji State University women's hockey coaching staff as an assistant coach. A 2017-18 Beaver Hockey captain, Sobieck joined the coaching staff after spending two seasons playing hockey professionally in Germany following graduation from Bemidji State in 2018.
Following her collegiate career, she pursued hockey professionally in Germany as a part of the country's top women's hockey league the Deutsche Fraueneishockey-Liga or DFEL. She skated for ERC Ingolstadt in 2018-19 and was team captain for the Eisbären Juniors Berlin in 2019-20. During her two seasons and 51 games in the DFEL, Terres piled up 47 goals and 29 assists for 76 points and led Ingolstadt to the playoffs in 2019.
"First off, I'd like to thank Chancellor Dave McMillan and Athletic Director Forrest Karr for supporting the women's hockey coaching staff to the fullest extent," said UMD head coach Maura Crowell. "We are thrilled to add Emma Sobieck to our staff. She comes to Duluth with both playing and coaching experience in the WCHA. She will jump right into this role and make our program better."
A USA Hockey 16/17 National Camp coach since 2021, Sobieck has been a MN HP 15 Development Camp coach and evaluator even longer, dating back to 2017.
Sobieck's collegite career at BSU inlcuded 146 games played for the Beavers between 2014 and 2018, skating in a whopping 145 consecutively. During that time, the forward native of New Hope, Minn. accumulated 48 points, which included 21 goals. She established career-high 22 points on a team-best 11 goals and 11 assists as a senior captain.
A graduate of Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School, Sobieck earned a coaching certificate from BSU in 2018 and completed her Bachelor of Science in individualized studies at BSU in 2020. Sobieck is currently pursuing her Masters of Physical Education Coaching of Sport from Southwest Minnesota State University.
