For the first time in seven weeks, the No. 7 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team returned to AMSOIL Arena and the result was a 2-0 win over Northern Minnesota foe Bemidiji State University.
Â
The Bulldogs got 21 saves from sophomore goaltender Hailey MacLeod, who earned her third shutout of the season and the team's sixth. With a 44-21 shots on goal advantage, UMD got goals from freshman Grace Sadura and junior defenseman Hanna Baskin.
Â
Sadura opened the scoring for the Bulldogs 15:34 into the first period by tipping in a shot from Jenna Lawry for her second goal of the season. UMD's second assist went to defenseman Paula Bergstrom, who picked her second helper in as many skates.
Â
That goal would be all the Bulldogs would need to defeat the Beavers, but Baskin unloaded a shot from the far goal line on an empty BSU net at 18:39 of the third period to give UMD the insurance goal and 2-0 final.
Â
Eva Filippova had 42 saves for BSU, who was held scoreless on its one power play attempt after a high stick goal was taken away from the Beavers. That runs UMD's current penalty kill streak up to 27-straight scoreless efforts, and marks the 10 th game in a row the Bulldogs have not allowed a power play tally.
Â
"I really liked our execution at the end of the game, not only the empty net goal, but the shift before it," said Bulldog head coach Maura Crowell. "You know, we spent about 40 seconds in the offensive zone when they were trying to pull their goalie, and I thought that was awesome. Last weekend we gave one up on a 5-on-6, so we are always trying to string things together and get better game to game. Bemidji is tough, they're strong and they're good on their sticks. I think it just took a little while, and finally we started figuring it out by the end."
Â
The Bulldogs, who improve to 12-7-3 on the season and 9-6-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, will put their 12-game winning streak against the Beavers on the line Saturday when the two sides return to AMSOIL for a matinee match that will get underway at 3:00 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES: Hanna Baskin has now compiled three points over her last two games, including two goals … UMD's six shutouts puts them in a tie nationally for the third most shutouts in the NCAA … senior blueliner Paula Bergstrom has notched two assists in her past three games.
