Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Host Crookston and Bemidji State

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team returns to their home court at Romano Gymnasium this weekend to take on the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles and the Bemidji State University Beavers.

THE SEASON SO FAR

 

The Bulldogs sit at sixth place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) after their split win/loss weekend versus MSU Moorhead and Northern State. They hold on to a 10-6 overall record and a 7-5 conference record, tied head to head with the St. Cloud State Huskies. UMD will look to move into the top four in the NSIC in order to secure a first round by in the conference tournament. 

 

RANKINGS, RANKINGS, RANKINGS

 

The NSIC has its first representative in the WBCA top 25 national rankings this week since UMD fell out in late December, with MSU Mankato moving into the No.25 spot. The Bulldogs hold onto number one in the conference for field goal percentage (44.2%), and second in the conference for both average blocks per game (5.0) and free throw percentage (74.4%). 

 

SCOUTING REPORT - CROOKSTON

 

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles sit at eight place in the NSIC, with an overall record of 9-9 and a conference record of 6-6 after their pair of losses to Sioux Falls and Southwest Minn. State last weekend. The Bulldogs are 18-2 against the Golden Eagles since 2013, most recently beating them on the road 99-52 last season.

 

SCOUTING REPORT - BEMIDJI STATE

 

The Bemidji State University Beavers remain at last in the NSIC standings, with an overall record of 3-13 and a conference record of 0-12 following their pair of losses to Augustana and Wayne State last weekend. The Bulldogs are 20-1 against the Beavers since 2013, most recently defeating them 84-62 last season. 

 

LOOKING AHEAD

 

Women's basketball will take on MSU Mankato at home before heading out on the road to take Augustana and Wayne State. The action for the Bulldogs will tip off on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 PM.
