Gabbie Hughes was named to the U.S. Women's National Team's Evaluation Camp set for March 27-30 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Hughes, who currently stars for Ottawa of the PWHL, is one of 39 athletes who have been invited to the camp. The 2024 U.S. Women's National Team will be named at the conclusion of camp and will compete at the IIHF Women's World Championship in Utica, N.Y. April 3-14.Â
Hughes won a 2023 World Championship medal last April with Team USA, her first ever IIHF senior level event. The center has since skated in six rivalry series games (and 13 overall with the national team), compiling four goals and an assist for five points. Hughes is tied for second in points for Ottawa (eight), with and is tied for the lead with six goals (along with another former Bulldog in Katerina Mrazova). Hughes also has three game-winning goals in the 15 games Ottawa has played.
The fifth all-time scorer in UMD program history (81-133=214), Hughes was a 2022 First Team All-American, as well as Patty Kazmaier top-3 finalist. Hughes won the 2023 Hockey Humanitarian Award for her work with Sophie's Squad after being named a finalist for the award in 2022.
