The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team collected on some last minute heroics from junior guard Myra Moorjani, hitting a three point shot in the final 15 seconds of the contest to power past the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles tonight 66-64 in Romano Gymnasium.

UMD started off the afternoon strong, putting together a 16-12 lead heading into the second quarter. The Bulldogs did most of their first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of their 16 points close to the basket.
The Bulldogs used the second period to increase their lead, out-scoring the Golden Eagles 15-14 and entered halftime with a 31-26 edge. UMD dominated in the paint during the period, scoring eight of its 15 points close to the basket.
The Golden Eagles battled back throughout the third quarter, out-scoring UMD 24-19 to force a 50-50 tie going into the fourth and final quarter. The Bulldogs played well near the basket, scoring 14 of their 19 points in the paint.
UMC then snagged a 64-58 advantage before UMD responded by going on an 8-0 run as time winded down, finished off by a game winning Moorjani three pointer, to seize a 66-64 lead and secure the victory and weekend sweep. UMD fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 16 points.
Bulldog Notes vs. UMC
The Bulldogs had three players score in double figures, led by Johanna Miller, who notched a double-double with a game high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Moorjani added 15 points and Lexi Karge helped out with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Led by Miller's five offensive rebounds, UMD did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in three second chance points.
The Bulldog defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 13 UMC turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Maria Counts led the way individually for the Bulldogs with three steals.
Looking Ahead
Bulldog women's basketball (7-10, 5-7 NSIC) leave for North Dakota next weekend to take on the University of Mary Marauders and the Minot State University Beavers. Tip-off against the Marauders is currently set for Friday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 PM.
