Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Kraemer and the No. 6 Bulldogs Special Teams Play Bounces Bemidji State 2-0

Behind two special team goals from Caitlin Kraemer, the No. 6 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team took care of business Friday night at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. with a 2-0 win over Bemidji State University.

In addition to Kraemer's two tallies, the Bulldogs got their seventh shutout of the season on senior goaltender Tindra Holm's third clean sheet of the year.

Kraemer's first goal was a shorthanded effort, her second of the season and UMD's sixth, a snap from the top of the left circle for the 1-0 lead at 4:30 of the opening frame.

The rookie doubled up her goal total for the night on the power play at 6:48 of the second period, one-timing in the rebound on the far side to stretch the Bulldogs advantage to 2-0.

Holm and the Bulldogs defense would do the rest, holding the Beavers to just nine shots on goal over the entire game and outshooting BSU 26-9 in the process. Holm's nine save outing was her fourth win of the season and put UMD back into the win column.

Eva Filipova had 24 saves for the Beavers, who fell to 5-24-1 overall and 3-20-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Bulldogs (16-11-2, 11-10-2) will try to put the wraps on the series tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES: UMD was without defenseman Ida Karlsson and Nina Jobst-Smith, who were both with their respective national teams for Olympic qualifying duties … the Bulldogs didn't have the services of Payton Hollway either, who missed the game to injury … UMD's six shorthanded goals ties the most a Bulldog team has put out since the 2010-11 season.
