After appearing in the initial NCAA Division II Softball Central Region Rankings a week ago, the University of Minnesota Duluth was ranked in the No. 10 slot in the regional rankings released Wednesday.
The Bulldogs, currently at 34-16 overall and 27-15 against regional competition, are one of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams in the regional poll with Augustana University and Minnesota State University being the other two clubs.
The central region is comprised of 40 teams from the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC), where eight-teams will be selected to the NCAA Central Region field.
This is the second of three regional rankings to be put out by the NCAA. The winner of the NSIC Postseason Tournament and the champions of the MIAA and the GAC get automatic bids to the tournament, leaving five at-large bids chosen following postseason tournament play. The NCAA softball selections will be announced on www.NCAA.com on Monday, May 5. The NCAA Championships are set for May 22-28 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park, Chattanooga, Tenn.
The NSIC Softball Tournament is set for April 30-May 3 at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D., hosted by Augustana University. The top-ten teams in the NSIC standings will participate in the single elimination tournament.
UMD finishes regular season play this weekend on the road with double headers against Minot State University and the University of Mary.
