The University of Minnesota Duluth track and field teams had a day full of record-breaking success on the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships. All of the action took place Friday, May 9 at the University of Minnesota Duluth at Malosky Stadium.
The performance of the day came from graduate student Shaelyn Hostager in the women's 10,000m run. She is the 2025 NSIC conference champion in the event with a time of 35:34.86.
Another all-conference performance came from Jack Van Kempen in the men's 3000m steeplechase. He took 3rd with a time of 9:21.96.
A few school records also fell in today's prelims. Freshman Hailey Hollar broke the women's 100m record in a time of 11.86, and sophomore Brady Johnson broke the men's 100m record with a time of 10.40m.
Johnson also went on to break the 200m school record in a time of 21.06. This was also a facility record and provo.
Junior Samuel Blomberg also broke his own school record in the men's 110m hurdles today in the preliminary rounds. His time of 14.28 was also a provo.
Other podium finishes came from sophomore Nolan Bakken in the men's 3k steeplechase in a time of 9:48.44. He took seventh, and sophomore Lillian Wanzek also took seventh in the women's long jump with a bound of 5.60m.
Junior Jackson Weston also took seventh in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.17m.
Tomorrow action will resume at 10:00 a.m. for the men's triple jump.
