Gascon Named WCHA Goaltender of the Week

UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.

University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey junior goaltender Eve Gascon has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Goaltender of the Week after her two shutout series wins over Syracuse University last weekend in Syracuse, NY.

Gascon secured two shutouts and moved into a tie for fifth all-time with goaltending legend Maddie Rooney after she earned her 13th career shutout at UMD Friday. The native of Mascouche, Quebec stopped all 46 shots she faced in the series-- the second most of any league goaltender -- and helped keep the Orange scoreless in 10 penalty kill attempts. it also marked Gascon's second-ever complete series shutout.

Gascon's two shutouts also puts her atop the NCAA early as the only goaltender in the country to have already logged two clean sheets.

The Bulldogs will be off from outside competition this week before they head to Madison, Wis. Oct. 10-11 to face the top-ranked University of Wisconin in WCHA action.
