UMD Softball Powers Through Northwest Missouri State 6-4

The University of Minnesota Duluth softball team earned its second victory of the 2026 season with a 6-4 victory over Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday in the Lone Star D2 College Classic.

Starting the game, both starting pitchers closed out the first inning with no runners on, as Allyssa Williams dealt three groundouts.

The first scoring came in the second inning after Serena Thomas reached first base, with Khendal Johnson following up with a home run for a 2-0 lead off two hits. Williams again allowed not a single hit in the second inning, with a strikeout and a double play ball eliminating the only runner on.

Ava Johnson opened up the third with a single and a stolen base to put her in position for Daphne Evans to bring her home on a single. After the Bearcats' pitcher Jadyn Streigle grounded out two batters, Evans came home off a wild pitch to close the top of the inning at 4-0. Williams would allow a homer to Sara Farlow to put the Bearcats on the board heading into the fourth inning at 4-1.

Both pitchers shut down the scoring in the fourth inning as the Bulldogs only reached base on two errors and a hit by pitch. Williams allowed only one hit to maintain the UMD lead at 4-1. Again, the Bulldogs were shut down on the base paths this time by the Bearcats' Olivia Moyer, as no hits were earned with Kendal Jenkins and Johnson reaching on walks. A single and a sacrifice bunt off Williams put a runner in scoring position to allow a single in centerfield to allow the Bearcats to chip the lead down to two by the end of the fifth inning.

Neither team would find success until the final inning, when Timmer was on base after a fielder's choice that took Jenkins off the base paths, which allowed Taylor Dawyduk a two-run homer to put the score at 6-2. Williams filled the bases in the bottom of the inning, allowing a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to bring in two runs with two outs. A final groundout sealed the Bulldogs' second victory of the Lone Star D2 College Classic at 6-4.

The Bulldogs compete in the final day of the Lone Star D2 College Classic tomorrow, first facing Rockhurst University at 9 a.m., with Harding University following at 11:15 a.m.
