University of Minnesota Duluth head softball coach Nat Wagner has stepped down from the helm of the Bulldog program after two successful seasons to become an assistant coach the University of Minnesota.
Â
Wagner led UMD to a record of 69-41 and a .627 winning percentage, and had four All-NSIC Team selections in his two seasons. He also coached one NSIC All-Defensive Team standout (Alyssa Williams) and had NFCA First Team All-American Nicole Schmitt, who was also named the 2025 NSIC Softball Outstanding Senior of the Year.
Â
In Wagner's first season in 2025, the Bulldogs made an NSIC Tournament run into the semifinals and were ranked as high as 10th in the region. The 39 wins last season tied Wagner for the most wins in program history for a first-year head coach, matching Lynn Anderson from the 2022 season.
Â
Wagner posted back-to-back 30 win seasons after his squad finished 30-24 in 2026 and picked up his 100th career coaching win on Jan. 30 to open the season.
Â
A nationwide search for his replacement will begin immediately.
