Biography
GETTING TO KNOW AUSTIN CARLSON:
Favorite Track Meet: NSIC Outdoor Conference. The atmosphere is awesome and gets you extra excited to go out there and race.
Why I Chose UMD: I always wanted to run track in college and Coach Nisius gave me an opportunity to do that. Coach set up a tour with some of the current track athletes and after seeing the school and the town I knew immediately that Duluth is where I wanted to be.
Influences On My Athletic Career: My parents got me involved in sports at a young age and things just took of from there. Also my sister Alyssa was heavily involved and successful in sports which pushed me harder to be successful.
Favorite College Course: Hydrogeology
What Most People Don't Know About Me: I am 1/4 pacific Islander. My grandma is from the island of Guam.
Most Memorable UMD Athletic Moment: Indoor Conference meet my sophomore year when the 4x4 got 3rd place out of the “slow heat.”
Pre-Meet Ritual or Superstition: I always get into the starting blocks the same exact way before every race.
Favorite Professional Athlete: Russell Westbrook
Sport I'd Like to Try Someday: Tennis

High School Highlights: Five-time letter award winner in track, three-time in cross country, and three-time in basketball. MSHSL Class A 400 meter runner up, member of National Honor Society
