Biography
BULLDOG CAREER:
2021-22 (Senior): Thiesen started in all 29 games for the Bulldogs this season. She also played the most minutes of any player this season for the second year in a row. She was a consistent scorer and ball handler for the Bulldogs as she averaged 8.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds on the season. She also tallied 1.4 steals per game. She shot 43.6% on the season and 78% from the foul line. She also notched a 1.49 assist-to-turnover ratio.Â
2020-21 (Junior): Started in all 16 games for the Bulldogs in her junior campaign, averaged the most minutes of any other UMD player, playing 32.1 minutes per game. Averaged 7.9 points per game. Shot an impressive 47.8% from the field and 48.7% from beyond the arc. Grabbed 3.2 rebounds per game. Led the Bulldog roster dishing out 65 assists and recorded 12 steals on the season.Â
2019-20 (Sophomore): Stepped up in a big way for the Bulldogs, starting every game on the season and saw 32.1 minutes a night. Thiesen was a dish master, handing out 124 assists (4.3 per game) on the season. She was able to score 7.9 points per game, had 53 steals and 12 blocks as well. Thiesen also made 75 field goals, with 29 of those being beyond the arc. She also finished the year with a .833 free throw percentage and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game.
2018-19 (Sophomore): Saw action in 19 games, averaging 11.3 minutes per game • tallied 47 total points, six steals, one block and 27 assists • scored a season high 11 points against Minot State on Dec. 7 • was 18-for-38 from the fieldÂ
BEFORE UMD: A 2018 graduate of Sauk Centre Secondary High School • wrapped up a five-year prep career with the Mainstreeters and head coach Scott Bergman, which ended with Sauk Centre winning the MSHSL 2017-18 Class AA state championship after a perfect 33-0 season • led Sauk Centre to the state tournament each of the last four years and was named to the All-Tournament team all four seasons • grabbed runner-up finishes in the state title game as a freshman and a junior • a three-time member of the Class AA All-State club • is a four-time All-West Central Conference member and was rewarded league MVP honors in back-to-back years • paced the squad in scoring (four years), steals (five) and assists (five) • is the Sauk Centre record older for most assists and tallied the 1,000 point scoring mark • also competed in cross country and track and field, each gathering all-conference nods twice.
PERSONAL: Born Maesyn Lee Thiesen in Sauk Centre, Minn. • daughter of Kenneth and Heather Thiesen • has an older sister, Mauren, who plays collegiately at the University of Minnesota Morris and a younger brother Macoy • involved in FFA (Future Farmers of America) at Sauk Centre • will major in integrated elementary and special education at UMD.
