GETTING TO KNOW MATTHEW:
Why I Chose UMD: I have always loved the area of Duluth and since UMD had a good chemistry program, I decided to go here. A few hills won't hurt, right?
Influences On My Athletic Career: My family has had the biggest impact on my running career. They are always there to cheer me on, even during a bad race. My father was a little protective though, he was at every single practice and meet.  
What Most People Don't Know About Me: I played the piano for many years.
Pre-Meet Ritual or Superstition: I always wear my orange socks, they help me run faster. 
Favorite Professional Athlete: Julian Alaphilippe
Sport I'd Like to Try Someday: Nordic skiing

High School Attended: Big Lake High School
Years Lettered/Competed with Varsity: 6 years in cross, and 4 in track.
High School Highlights: Going to state twice in cross and once in track with a 4x800.
